Frequently Asked Questions

Does the DOT-Z1 require any connections besides power, such as to a Vehicle Speed Sensor?
The DOT-Z1 Pro does not require any connection besides power since it uses the integrated high-performance GPS receiver and advanced algorithms to compute precise distance, speed, and GPS coordinates.  The DOT-Z1 Basic and Standard models, however, require connection to a Vehicle Speed Sensing source.

Does the DOT-Z1 require a seperate external sensor like the Numetrics Nitestar and Jamar Technologies RAC PLUS DMIs?
Unlike other DMIs from other manufacturers that require an external sensor module, the DOT-Z1 Basic and Standard models connect directly to the signal source.  This eliminates additional unnecessary wiring and is less prone to failure since all sensing is self-contained in the DMI.  This also saves costs from purchasing and maintaining an additional module.

How accurate is the DOT-Z1 DMI?
The DOT-Z1 achieves an accuracy of up to 0.5 foot per mile.  This accuracy is obtained by partially using advanced algorithms, perfected over 25 years of research and development, and by using a 4-digit calibration number.

Can the DOT-Z1 measure distance on any terrain?
The DOT-Z1 works on any terrain, whether its paved roads, gravel, dirt, or virgin land.  Furthermore, the DOT-Z1 Pro can be used on anything that moves, and can even be hand-carried to measure distances using the optional battery pack.

What software is available to interface with the DMI?
The Microdynamics Data Viewer application is included free of charge wiith the DOT-Z1 Standard and Pro.  It allows the user to access stored events, as a well as the potential of accessing other pieces of information such as real-time information and logging.  The application simply requires just a USB connection to the DMI, and the application automatically detects and connects to the DMI. There is no setup or serial ports to worry about.
